Visionary
A recent visit to the Kinokuniya bookshop (I found a book guiding peeps to be film-makers published by the MDA) and a recent short two day course on film-making almost made me feel like a visionary. You see, I had learnt that the S'pore gahmen has finally see that there is a future in developing the film industry in S'pore and in fact, they had launched a campaign called Media 21 in 2003 to support this. ( Why everythign must have 21 leh? Scared put 22 is like a catch har?)
How does all this makes me a visionary leh? Well, I had already figured in my final year (1996) in varsity that the next industry to expand should logically be the film industry.
My logic is simple; look at all the developed countries like USA, Japan and South Korea, aren't their media industry blooming? This, I reckoned, is because as the people gets more busier in their working lives, entertainment becomes more and more a necessity in their lives, to drive the drudgery away.
And the film or media or whatever you called it industry can serve that need. And it can serve it very well indeed.
I was all ready then to do my thesis in the form of a feasibility study on the industry; but sadly then,I couldn't find any tutor then who wasn't too hum ji (scared) about doing it.
In the end, I turned to my tutor mentor friend, Wendy, for help. (Wendy was THE most popular tutor in campus, her students had booked her for FYP right in the beginning of Year 2. That was how popular she was :P)
Of course, by the time I turned to Wendy, I knew she was already fully booked. But I was hoping she could recommend some garang tutor names to me. Unfortunately, the names that she brought forth were the people we had approached and said nay. Just as we were at our wits end, she suddenly told us that actually she just got a slot opened because some weird students wanna drop her as tutor. But her condition was that we give up my idea and do other stuff.
Not wanting to jeopardise the chance of getting a distinction grade for my teammates, I agreed to forego my pet project. (Yeah, in the end, we got an "A" and the project was eventually published in the Stock Exchange Journal. But I'd still rather have done my project :p).
Even though I couldn't do my feasibility study, I was still convinced this industry was the way to go. And I never stopped believing, which is why I keep trying to enter it hahaha. It feels good now to know the gahmen has started to believe in it too.
I r Visionary! ( Not!)
Anyway, the course was quite intriguing and fun. Did you know that the place was jammed pack and there was a waiting list for walk-ins? Its amazing man. I now firmly believe we are a nation of bandwagon jumpers... just joking :P
Its encouraging coz if say just 10% of the cohort actually set out to make a film, it will mean 40 new feature length films this year, which will definitely be a record of sorts for S'pore. And not to say kick off our indie scene totally man.
Hopefully when that happens, I will have a chance to be in one of them.
How about making one of my own? I'm on top of that one too. I now just need a great script or script idea I can work on. If you wanna help, feel free to bombard me with ideas at my email address.
Just be quick about it, before I get warded for a very bad gastric that I am going through now.
Spielberg me!

Operation DKnY
Tomorrow I will be embarking on operation DKnY. Which means I will be waking up at an unearthly hour to do unearthly things. So what is this operation all about? Sorry, its for me to know and for you to never find out hahaha.
If the operation is successful, then maybe, just maybe, I will tell you all about it. So wish me luck!
The One and the Scientist
I have decided not to upload the video for the Sci Guy episode I did. Its not that I didn't do a good job, but seeing how I'm near my website capacity, I kinda wanna save my bandwidth for other stuff.
I will be changing my showreel to incorporate Sci Guy though, so if you have missed it and want to catch a glimpse of it, you still can. (I haven't changed it yet hor, mai gan cheong)
In the meantime, here are some screen shots from my most funniest moment in the show (eh, the captions are NOT what I said during the show hor :P) :

"OMG!!" My thumb!!!" "Waddaya mean its permanent?!!"
I also got to wear these pair of glasses that were supposed to make me look nerdy. They errm cost about 2.5 Xboxes :P

Nice huh? Well, Mel thinks they look good on me too. But its 2.5 Xboxes man! I'm still saving up to own one :P
The One and the Wedding
Finally got the call from Mediacorp and my next role is playing a guy who despite parental objection still proceeds to marry a kidney patient. Heh, I know from reading the above sentence it would seem like its a big role. But nah, the main role is the kidney patient, mine is really a small one.
One great thing about the role is that I get to have a wedding scene! And its my first wedding scene to boot. And I have a pretty wife too. Heck, even the bridesmaid is pretty. ;)
In case you are wondering, no, there is no nao dong fan scene.
Talking about the wife, I actually met her (Jeneen) about 4 years ago in a method acting class.
I still remember her first monologue during the class and even though it was her first time, I thought she showed lots of potential.
I could have met her earlier though, if I had gotten the role for a Blue Print feature that I auditioned some two years back, as she was casted as the female lead. But if I met her then, I would have been her villian.
So on hindsight, its probably better that I meet her now, as her husband, instead of as some pyscho., hehehe.
Its nice meeting you again, Jeneen. :)
Don't tekan me on my wedding!

>>> Science Guy, PI
I'll be appearing in this Sunday's episode of Sci Guy, where I play a guy who's myopic when it comes to love. This can be considered as my first comedic role, as opposed to the many villiany roles I have been doing... -_-
The episode is screening at 10am and I may or may not upload excerpts or even the whole episode here, depending on how I feel about the performance :P
And If you have caught it, please feel free to plaster me with your comments. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment sometimes.
